Joined: Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:01 am Posts: 820 Location: North Carolina | I've got a Smith model 63 kit gun with the pinned barrel. It's stainless, 4 inch, square butt, and in excellent condition. I may have to part ways with this gun, not sure. I bought it used several years ago and have put less than a 100 rounds through it. I don't know it's history though. I have a plastic S&W box and owners manual for it but they are not original. GunBroker and Guns America have not been very helpful in determining a price as there are just not many out there. Would anyone be so kind as to offer an educated opinion on it's re-sale value? Thanks in advance.

I had one, and in about 1998 or so traded it to a friend who wanted a small revolver to teach his children with. I'm glad I traded with him, but still miss that little thing. Sorry I don't know the present value. _________________ Hugh U. S. Navy, 1959 - 1987, Retired NRA Life Member

Selling a firearm you like, it’s about guaranteed you’ll regret it later.…and would be hard to replace! _________________ U.S. Army Retired (1969-2002) NRA Life Member.

The 2' 63 should bring $550- $650 anlong with the 650 and the 651 Stainless Kit Gun 22 MRF. 650 being plain barrel and the 652 having sights. The earlrier flat latches and the I framed 34 bring more. Great little trail guns. Though smaller the J frames are actualy a bit harder toteach kids to shoot with due to the heavier trigger pull of the coil spring used in the J frames. I K framed K22 can usually be tuned to have a much smoother and lighter triger. But you asked about the 63. $500 plus or minus $50. RWT

I haven't seen a 63 in a while. I think the prices that you are being given should be pretty close. I know I couldn't part with mine. Without looking it up I would say I got mine new in the late 70's possibly the early 80's. I have the original blue cardboard box and everything that came with it. I may have used the tools that came with it I can't remember. It's been fired very little. I do know the bore dimensions of the 22LR are different then the 22mag's dimensions. So far I have not experience any problems with that. I had a competent gunsmith fit it and he fired several shots through it. I did the same thing with M 17 Smith close to 35 years ago.

My 63 and 651 are mine forever. I had them vapor-blasted to passivate the surfaces, giving a near-pearlescent sheen. Even in stock trim, they'd be very hard to replace at $500-600 each. _________________ Its a Right. A Civil Right. Joined: Thu Jun 29, 2006 1:01 am Posts: 3044 Location: Owyhee County, ID, USA | Rugerguy: They were introduced in 1977 with a pinned barrel. All S&W 22LR are recessed. This would be a 63 dash nothing. THey deleted the pinned barrel in 1982 and the model changed to 63-1 to reflect the engineering change. For whatever reason the 2' guns, introduced in 1989 are 63-3 even though there are no specific engineering changes. I follow Kit Guns pretty carefully. $500 +- $50 is about normal on GB. Of course add shipping. They do go higher but if a guy waits they come around. Of the bunch the 651 always brings $650 or so and every once in a while $750 which sees like a bunch for a 'J' frame. I have a 51 so never bought the 651. I paid $450 shipped for a very nice 95%-98% 2' round butt 34 a couple of months ago. Sold a 2' 63 for $650 at about the same time. Kept the one I carry around. I have no idea where the original cardboard box is as I bought it used from a local gun store several years age. The serial numbers first character is the letter 'M'. The rest are numbers.

No kidding! I had one of that vintage (including the box and a set of Herrett Shooting Star stocks) several years ago and I traded it off for some new doo dad or pretty bauble. Earlier this week I decided to have a look around to see what they're going for and how far up The List it should be. The few no dash models I found were spendy with asking prices of $600+ but I have no idea how long they are sitting at that price. If you MUST sell (BTDT over the past couple of years so I know how it feels ), I'd ask $525-ish to give some room for negotiating. If it's a case of needing funds immediately, $450-475 should make for a quick sale. _________________ The Python might be the better combat arm, but once you run out of bullets nothing screams pistol whip like an N-frame Nobody beat me, we were playing pinochle.
